Moving Denmark (Danish: ‘Danmark i Bevægelse’) is the most comprehensive national study of physical activity habits in Denmark. In the fall of 2020, the first phase gathered responses from 163,000 Danes aged 15 and over about their physical activity behaviors.
In 2025, the study expands with a new focus: collecting data on the movement habits of children and youth. As part of this, a large-scale questionnaire will be distributed to 600,000 children, young people, and adults across the country, making it one of the most comprehensive studies of its kind in Denmark.
Moving Denmark aims to support municipalities, organizations, and policymakers in creating environments and initiatives that foster more active lifestyles and integrate physical activity into everyday life across all age groups. The project also seeks to help more people experience the joy of movement – for the benefit of their well-being, personal development, and public health.

Results from the 2025 survey will be communicated during 2026. Among other things, the findings will shed light on children’s use of playgrounds and other facilities in their local communities and explore the factors that influence their general movement habits during leisure time.
We know that regular physical activity is essential for children’s overall health and well-being and that active children are more likely to grow into active adults. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the opportunities children have for play and movement in their everyday surroundings.
The Nordea Foundation funds this project.
